SunPower wraps up 25-MW solar power plant in California

Oct 30, 2012 - US photovoltaic (PV) equipment maker SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) has completed a 25-MW alternating current (AC) solar power plant in Modesto, California.

The completion of the McHenry solar park was announced today by SunPower, power producer K Road Power Holdings LLC, which owns the plant, and utility Modesto Irrigation District (MID), which is buying its output.

Earlier this year, K Road bought the project from SunPower, which designed and built the facility and is now providing operations and maintenance services. The power generated is being sold to MID under a 25-year power purchase agreement that supports the utility in meeting California's 33% renewable portfolio standard.

The installation uses SunPower's Oasis Power Plant modular PV technology and is producing enough power for about 6,000 homes, according to the announcement. Construction took seven months.
