March 16 (Renewables Now) - US distributed generation, storage and energy services company SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR) on Monday said it recently secured nearly 11 MW in direct current (DC) solar capacity in New England's latest Forward Capacity Auction.

SunPower aggregated its residential solar portfolio as a virtual power plant to take part in the auction. The company will sell and install about 1,375 home solar systems in the six states in the New England region to meet the capacity.

SunPower's partner on the bid was energy management company CPower Energy Management.

The capacity awarded as part of the 14th annual auction in the region will be delivered between 2023 and 2024. ISO New England was quoted as saying that the price at which the capacity was secured was the lowest in the auction's history.
