Dec 18, 2013 - US solar systems manufacturer SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) yesterday unveiled a 20-MW panel order from Ecomax Japan Inc for several projects in the central and northern parts of the Asian country.
The given capacity for the high efficiency E20/327 solar panels is in direct current (DC). The two companies have also signed an extension to the deal, under which Ecomax will buy more of the same panels for future projects.
Next year, some of the ordered SunPower panels will be installed at 13 MW of solar plants in Gumna. Ecomax is acting as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for these projects under a deal awarded by Japanese company Farmdo. In addition, Ecomax will build 7 MW of own solar plants, the output of which will be sold to local utilities. The customer plans to operate 3 MW of capacity as an independent power producer (IPP).
The E20/327 model integrates the Maxeon all-back contact solar cells, SunPower said. The efficiency of the panels stands at 20.1%, making then a good fit for Japanese projects as space there is limited.
Financial details on the contract were not disclosed.
