SunPower to add 10.2 MW of solar capacity at Verizon facilities
Aug 25, 2014 - US telecoms giant Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) said today it had contracted SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) to install 10.2 MW of solar arrays at eight of its network facilities this year.
The wireless and wireline communications services provider has committed to invest almost USD 40 million (EUR 30.3m) as part of the project. SunPower will install rooftop, parking-structure and ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at sites in the states of California, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York.
To date, Verizon has poured almost USD 140 million into on-site green energy installations, including such using fuel cells, and is now on track to surpass 25 MW of renewables capacity once the new solar systems are deployed, it noted. The company’s goal is to reduce its carbon intensity in half by 2020.
