US utility NV Energy has agreed to buy the output of a 100-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park that will be built by SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) in the state of Nevada.
The two parties have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), SunPower announced on Thursday, without disclosing its value. The contract needs to be approved by Nevada's Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
The solar power company expects to commence construction work on the Boulder Solar plant in the Eldorado Valley of Boulder City by the end of the year, with plans to have it up and running in 2016. SunPower bought the project from KOMIPO America Inc, a unit of Korea Midland Power Co Ltd, earlier this year.
Once completed, the Boulder Solar park will be offered to 8point3 Energy Partners LP (NASDAQ:CAFD), which is the yieldco joint venture between SunPower and First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR).
Meanwhile, SunPower is also building two other solar parks in Nevada, namely the 15-MW plant at Nellis Air Force Base and the 19.9-MW facility in Lyon County.
