SunPower, Iberdrola Renewables to develop 20-MW solar system in Arizona
(ADPnews) - Dec 9, 2010 - US photovoltaic (PV) equipment maker SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWRA) said Thursday it agreed to develop a 20-MW PV solar system in Arizona together with clean energy firm Iberdrola Renewables.
Construction of the Copper Crossing plant, covering 144 acres (58 hectares) of former agricultural land in Pinal County, kicked off this month, with the facility to be up and running in 2011. It will include SunPower E19 panels, SunPower trackers and the SunPower Oasis modular solar power blocks.
Iberdrola Renewables, part of Spanish renewable energy company Iberdrola Renovables (MCE:IBR), will be the owner and operator of the system, selling all power output to local utility Salt River Project under a long-term agreement.
A month ago, SunPower and Iberdrola Renewables agreed to construct a 30-MW solar power plant in Alamosa County, Colorado.
