Sungrow's inverters picked for 256-MWp solar project in S Africa

Chinese solar inverter maker Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) has received an order to supply inverters to South African solar power producer Sola Group for a 256-MWp photovoltaic (PV) project.

The deal calls for the delivery of Sungrow’s 1+X modular inverter solution, the Chinese firm said on Thursday, adding that the specific product combined the advantages of both central and string inverters.

The equipment has been ordered for a project that will create a solar farm with an expected annual power output of 540 GWh. Once in operation, the complex will be supplying electricity to titanium products maker Tronox Mineral Sands. The latter will receive electricity for five of its mines and smelters in South Africa’s Western Cape province under wheeling arrangements under which state-owned utility Eskom.

The solar park will be equipped with 387,000 PV panels mounted on single-axis trackers. It is due to go online by 2023.

In September, Sola Group sold the rights of the specific project to German investor ABO Wind.
