SunEdison, Solon activate 1 MW PV plant in Arizona
(ADPnews) - Oct 20, 2010 - US solar electricity company SunEdison LLC and Solon Corp, the US-based subsidiary of German solar-tech company Solon (ETR:SOO1) have launched a 1 MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Arizona.
SunEdison, which is a unit of MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE:WFR), announced yesterday that the installation, located near the Roger Road Wastewater Reclamation facility, was rolled out via the deal with the Prima County. Built with no upfront costs from the county, the system is estimated to save it up to USD 2 million (EUR 1.5m) over the 20-year agreement term.
The array is composed of Solon's models and single-axis tracking technology. It is projected to generate over 2 million kWh of electricity per year and over 40 million kWh over the next 20 years.
According to Prima's sustainability resolution, introduced in May 2007, the county is required to meet 15% of its energy needs using renewable resources by 2025.
