Aug 8, 2013 - US firm SunEdison Inc (NYSE:SUNE), former MEMC Electronic Materials Inc, on Wednesday guided for third-quarter non-GAAP sales of solar energy systems of between 60 MW and 100 MW, with average prices of USD 3.25 (EUR 2.43) to USD 3.50 per watt.
In the third quarter of 2012 the silicon wafer maker's solar energy sales amounted to 74 MW.
Third-quarter 2013 semiconductor sales are projected at between USD 230 million and USD 250 million.
For the full year, non-GAAP sales in the solar systems division are seen at 430 MW-500 MW, with average prices of USD 3.10-3.40 per watt. Sun Edison also revised downwards to USD 940 million-980 million its forecast for semiconductor sales from between USD 940 million and USD 990 million.
SunEdison reported a second-quarter 2013 net loss of USD 102.9 million, widening from USD 77.2 million a year earlier. Revenues halved to USD 401.3 million from USD 808.4 million. The company's CEO Ahmad Chatila said that in spite of the challenging business environment in the second quarter, he was "optimistic regarding our prospects for growth through the remainder of this year and into next".
