SunEdison gets StanChart loan for 15 MW of solar parks in Malaysia - report

Jun 25, 2013 - UK lender Standard Chartered (LON:STAN) extended a MYR-134-million (USD 42m/EUR 32m) loan to a unit of US silicon wafer maker SunEdison Inc (NYSE:SUNE) for 15 MW of solar plants in Malaysia, news agency Bernama said.

The loan will support a 10-MW and a 5-MW solar plant, both scheduled to kick off operations in August. They are the first utility-scale installations to be developed by SunEdison, former MEMC Electronic Materials, in Malaysia, according to the news source.

Together, the two photovoltaic (PV) parks are estimated to produce more than 370 million kWh of power for a 20-year period, enough to supply over 6,000 households. They will also help mitigate about 12 million kg (27m pounds) of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
