April 29 (Renewables Now) - Steag Solar Energy Solutions GmbH (SENS) will set up solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with a total capacity of 11 MWp on the roofs of commercial properties owned by Hamburg-based Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH across Germany.
The solar plants will be installed on both existing and new buildings by the beginning of 2023 as part of a partnership between the two companies, Steag said on Thursday.
The first project of the cooperation includes a 1.6-MW solar system that will be deployed on the roof of an existing building in the municipality of Harsum, Lower Saxony. The installation of 4,070 solar modules will take place in the next few months.
Construction work will then start on a 3.3-MWp project in the city of Mannheim which will be followed by a 2.4-MWp system to be installed in Coswig, Saxony-Anhalt.
All projects with a combined output of 11 MW will be completed by early 2023. Once operational, they are expected to reduce carbon emissions by 4,400 tonnes a year.
Fabian Herr, COO at SENS, sees potential for the expansion of the partnership as Garbe has an area of 6 million sq m (64.5m sq ft) which could be equipped with rooftop solar plants.
