Statkraft to start building 30-MW wind farm in Chile

October 7 (Renewables Now) - Norwegian state-owned renewables company Statkraft A/S, through its Chilean subsidiary, has formally declared the start of construction for the 30-MW Cardonal wind park.

On October 4, Statkraft Chile informed the Chilean Superintendency of the Environment about the state of the project. It said on Wednesday that it will begin the first works related to the construction of internal roads in the coming days.

Located in the Litueche commune, O'Higgins Region, the wind farm is part of a 102.45-MW wind portfolio Statkraft is currently developing in the territory. Together with the 24.15-MW Manantiales and the 48.30-MW Los Cerrillos wind parks, Cardonal will deliver its output to the National Electric System (SEN).

Statkraft plans to have the three wind farms operating by the end of 2022. To be comprised of 19 wind turbines, the assets will have an average annual generation of approximately 330 GWh, which is enough energy to supply nearly 100,000 Chilean household
