Statkraft AS will sell more wind and solar power to German cement maker Opterra under a deal calling for the supply of 300 GWh, the Norwegian renewable energy generator said on Wednesday.
The companies have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) that follows a similar contract from end-2021 for electricity from four of Statkraft’s wind farms in Germany.

Under the latest deal, starting this month, Opterra will receive clean power for its Karsdorf and Wossingen manufacturing facilities in the states of Saxony-Anhalt and Baden-Wurttemberg, respectively. In the period between April 2022 and June 2023, Statkraft will deliver 15 GWh of wind power to the two sites, while from July 2023 to December 2032, some 30 GWh of solar power will be supplied annually.
The initial PPA between Statkraft and Opterra covers the supply of 120 GWh of onshore wind power between 2022 and 2025. Three of the cement maker’s plants benefit from the deal, including the Karsdorf and Wossingen sites, where up to 20% of the annual power consumption will be met with renewable energy.
Both PPAs support Opterra’s goal to cut its carbon footprint.
