Standard Solar Inc and SolarPark Energy on Tuesday said they have completed a 7.1-MW community solar project in York in the state of New York.
Standard Solar, a company specialising in commercial and community solar assets, funded the construction and will be the long-term owner and operator of the single-axis tracker facility, while New York-based community solar developer SolarPark Energy developed the scheme.
The project is also fully subscribed. Catalyst Power Holdings LLC is in charge of subscriber acquisition and customer service, signing up multiple smaller commercial subscribers.
Under New York’s community solar programme, residents and businesses can save up to 10% on their utility bills, the firms noted.
“In addition to benefiting hundreds of local businesses and residents, this project brings New York one step closer to meeting the goal of the state’s Climate Act to generate 70% of New York’s electricity from renewable energy by 2030,” commented Daryl Pilon, director of business development at Standard Solar.
New York recently passed the 1-GW mark for installed community solar capacity. New York governor Kathy Hochul said in March this is enough to power 209,000 homes in the state, with the community solar projects under construction capable of serving a further 401,000 homes.
