Sri Lanka launches 737-kW solar power plant - report

(SeeNews) - Mar 20, 2013 - Sri Lanka’s president Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday officially powered up a 737-kW solar park in the Hambantota district, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corp reported.

The project’s cost is LKR 1.025 billion (USD 8m/EUR 6.3m) and it is said to be the largest in the country. The solar installation, which will help Sri Lanka reduce foreign oil imports, is in line with the government’s policy to increase the national power capacity and provide “electricity for all at all times”, the report said.
