US power producer Sustainable Power Group, also known as sPower, announced today that works had started on its 45-MW Sandstone Solar project in Florence, Arizona.
The plant is scheduled to commence commercial operations by the end of this year. It will sell the electricity it produces through a 21-year power purchase agreement (PPA) between sPower and Arizona public utility Salt River Project (SRP).
The Sandstone project will comprise more than 182,000 photovoltaic (PV) modules supplied by China's JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS) and installed by US firm Swinerton Renewable Energy. They will be mounted on a tracking system.
Once the solar park becomes operational, it will generate enough power to supply more than 8,000 local homes and offset the emission of more than 88,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.
