May 5 (Renewables Now) - Spanish renewables developer Opdenergy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with US electric utility Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for 90 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in Kentucky.
The 15-year PPA was awarded to Opdenergy through a competitive bidding process, which attracted proposals for 3,700 MW of capacity for TVA’s Green Invest programme, the Spanish company said Tuesday.
Opdenergy will build the 90-MW solar park in Kentucky’s Simpson County. The plant is expected to generate enough electricity to power up 17,000 households and avoid the release of 90,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The new solar park is slated to commence commercial operation in the third quarter of 2022.
