South Holland needs to better promote solar energy - report
Sep 12, 2013 - Dutch province of South Holland should better promote solar power production among individuals and businesses, the provincial parliament appealed Wednesday, quoted by local media.
This would encourage more people to install solar panels.
So, a majority of the parliamentary members backed the proposal of the Party for the Animals (PvdD) to stimulate solar power production. According to Carla van Viegen, member of the provincial parliament on behalf of PvdD, the province is now too lax, while there are plenty of opportunities.
Farmers could place solar panels on their plots and municipalities could generate solar power along roads. The province should urge other authorities to support this initiative too, the provincial parliament said.
South Holland has to generate 14% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.
