Sonnedix unveils Japanese tie-up to add 170 MW

Sonnedix, the independent solar power producer majority owned by investors advised by JP Morgan Asset Management, on Friday announced a partnership for a 170-MW expansion in Japan.

The alliance is with GSSG Solar LLC, a solar investor and early mover in the Japanese market, and has been formed through Nippon Solar Services (NSS), which is the Japanese operator for Sonnedix's investments.

NSS and GSSG have created a joint development framework to complete the 170-MW portfolio of solar power plants for Sonnedix, the latter said. The portfolio, on which GSSG has been working since 2014, includes 47 MW of plants under construction, while the remainder is under development.

NSS and GSSG are also eyeing continued collaboration in Japan and other regions including the US, according to the announcement.

Sonnedix chief executive Andreas Mustad said the expansion of the company's pipeline projects in Japan demonstrates its long-term commitment to the local market. Globally, Sonnedix has reached more than 1 GW, including almost 500 MW operational and over 500 MW under development and construction.
