Solsol to bring Thai Solatron's cell, module capacity to 180 MW
Jun 4, 2014 - Thai photovoltaic (PV) cell maker Solartron Public Co Ltd (BKK:SOLAR) said today it has awarded German company Solsol Group an order to retrofit its 65-MW solar cell and module production plant and boost its annual capacity to 180 MW.
Solar technology firm Solsol will start work under the contract in the second quarter of 2015. The company will use advanced metallisation technologies in order to reduce silver consumption to 70 mg per cell, cutting production costs. The efficiency of the multi-crystalline solar cells will be 17.6% at the launch of the new production line and will be gradually increased to 18%.
Solartron expects the reduction of the production costs through Solsol's technology to enable expansion of its operations in South-East Asia, Europe, North and South America. The company has been manufacturing solar cells and modules in Thailand since 2011.
According to a new report by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) published earlier this week, Thailand has installed 317 MW of PV capacity in 2013.
