Sep 10, 2012 - SolRWind Corp plans a 1-MW solar facility worth USD 5 million (EUR 4m) near Savanna, Illinois, local newspaper The Quad-City Times reported on Saturday.
Karla's solar farm will cover 4.5 acres (1.8 hectares) of the Savanna Depot Business, Industry and Technology Park. Construction is to begin on September 19, with power generation to start by spring 2013.
The farm, which will consist of 3,600 solar panels, will be the first of SolRWind's renewable energy projects to be developed at the site, chief executive James Law told the paper. He added that the Illinois Office of Energy Independence and Regional Economic Development, part of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Opportunity, has granted USD 800,000 in funding for the project.
The company expects to start the second phase of the project, called Phil's solar farm, by late spring 2013, with construction to be completed by the end of 2015.
