SolarReserve opens office in Australia

Dec 4, 2013 - US solar projects developer SolarReserve LLC said Tuesday it had expanded its global business with the addition of an office in Perth, Australia.

In line with its strategy the company will seek to develop both large-scale concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic (PV) projects, and will focus on opportunities for off-grid installations in the mining sector. It has appointed Daniel Thompson as director of development for Australia and will be responsible for the firm’s development in the region.

SolarReserve’s CEO Kevin Smith noted that Australia’s best solar resources are found in remote locations where mines operate so solar power can help the mining sector offset the high price of electricity production in those areas.

At present, more than 1,000 mines operate in Western Australia alone.
