Solar roof can be ordered for almost any country. Deployment this year in the US and overseas next year.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 10, 2017
The cost of the roof will depend much on the portion of solar tiles in it, calculated based on the power demand of the house. Tesla said the typical homeowner can expect to pay USD 21.85 (EUR 20.1) per sq ft for Solar Roof with a 35% solar tile share. Consumer Reports says USD 24.50 per sq ft is the cost below which a solar roof would be cost competitive with a regular roof.
On its website Tesla says the tile warranty would be to infinity, or the lifetime of the house. The tiles are three times stronger than standard roofing tiles, but much lighter, according to the company. The power and weatherization warranty is 30 years.
