SolarCity (NASDAQ:SCTY) has decided to counter Cogenra Solar’s recently-filed lawsuit against the company by suing its parent SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR) over trade secrets theft.
The California-based rooftop solar installer has filed a lawsuit against SunPower claiming that a former SolarCity project development manager obtained hundreds of commercial customer records related to sales of solar and energy-storage systems and then joined SunPower, Bloomberg reports.
SolarCity has turned to the court in an effort to block the use of its records. The damages it seeks were not specified.
Earlier this week, SunPower’s Cogenra subsidiary started legal proceedings against SolarCity, accusing it of using previously shared confidential information in order to develop its own technology for the production of shingled-cell solar modules.
Cogenra has requested that the court bans SolarCity from using this technology. It is also seeking compensation. Khosla Ventures III LP, a former controlling stakeholder of Cogenra, is a plaintiff too.
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is in the process of acquiring SolarCity in a deal, whose equity value is estimated at USD 2.6 billion (EUR 2.3bn).
