(SeeNews) - Oct 25, 2012 - US solar system provider SolarCity and energy management consulting firm MC Solar Development have completed a 237-kW rooftop solar installation at elevator component maker GAL Manufacturing in Bronx, New York City.
The system, which includes 988 solar panels, was designed and installed by SolarCity and MC Solar Development and will be maintained by the two companies, SolarCity said today. It will generate enough power to offset some 50% of the building's electricity consumption and save GAL USD 50,000 (EUR 38,500) in utility costs per year, the statement says.
The installation is described as one of the largest commercial rooftop solar arrays in the city. "New York City offers a very attractive opportunity for Commercial Solar Systems, and we are encouraged that the high visibility of this project with its proximity to Yankee Stadium will promote not only Solar Energy but all renewable energy in the City," Jim Nadel of MC Solar Development said.
The project is supported by the NY-Sun initiative, under which the state of New York is providing incentives for home and business owners to adopt solar. SolarCity opened new locations in New York earlier this month.
