March 17 (SeeNews) - SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) has installed over 7.5 MW of rooftop solar systems at residential housing areas operated by Balfour Beatty Communities LLC at five naval bases in the US northeast.

More specifically, the residential solar firm has completed over 1,300 such installations at Navy housing communities located in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. They are part of the so-called SolarStrong initiative, which aims to deploy over USD 1 billion (EUR 884m) worth of solar power capacity for 120,000 military homes throughout the country.

SolarCity already partnered once with Balfour Beatty Communities to install 13.3 MW of rooftop solar arrays across housing at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. The real estate firm purchases the power generated by the systems at a discount to local utility rates.
