Castilla-La Mancha to prioritize renewable energy projects
Apr 17, 2018 10:50 CESTJanuary 20 (SeeNews) - The US Patent and Trademark Office has granted a patent to Solar-Tectic LLC for a germanium perovskite thin film tandem solar cell, the company announced on Thursday.
The "Method of Making A Tandem Solar Cell Having a Germanium Perovskite/Germanium Thin-Film" patent concerns highly efficient and inexpensive solar cells. The entire process is non-toxic since there is no lead (Pb) in the cell.
Solar-Tectic believes that crystalline thin-film germanium could prove to be more efficient and less expensive than silicon and germanium wafer technology because of the low temperature processing and reduced material use.
The company noted that so far there have been no reports on perovskite/crystalline germanium thin-film tandem solar cells. It added that its technology is eligible for protection not only in the US but also globally.
