Solar sole winner in another Hungarian tender, 183 MW awarded

Hungary recently concluded its third renewables auction under the METAR framework, awarding contracts for difference (CfDs) to 183 MW of solar projects for 15 years.

An update by the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH) shows the tech-neutral round was oversubscribed. It sought to award contracts for an annual output of 300 GWh per year and got offers for more than three times that amount. Of the 183 bids, 57 were successful. All winners are building solar capacity.

In the small systems categories for projects of less than 1 MW, 42 bids won CfDs for 32 MW of total capacity at an average winning bid price of HUF 21.26 (USD 0.065/EUR 0.058) per kWh. In the 1 MW-20 MW category, 15 projects with a combined capacity of 152 MW got contracts. The average price achieved there was HUF 16.15 per kWh.

The significant competition resulted in a 5% decrease in the average price from the previous tender, concluded in February.

The winning projects represent an investment of HUF 62 billion.
