Solar Frontier Americas, the US-based renewable energy business of Japanese petroleum company Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd (TYO:5019), said on Monday it is changing its name to Idemitsu Renewables.
The move was undertaken in order to reflect the parent company’s commitment to expanding its renewables business in the US and aligns with its goal to have “a diversified and resilient energy platform.” As renewable energy has been set as one of the pillars for the company’s growth, the Japanese group will target to achieve a 4-GW portfolio of renewable energy assets, most of which will come from the US arm.
Idemitsu Renewables is involved in the development, financing, ownership and operation of utility-scale solar and storage projects. It currently manages “a multi-gigawatt portfolio” in various stages of development, according to the statement.
“Idemitsu’s strong support will hasten the growth of our independent power producer (IPP) and development business and bolster our national expansion through acquisitions of solar and storage projects, co-development partnerships, and greenfield development activities,” said Cary Vandenberg, managing director of Idemitsu Renewables.
