German inverter maker SMA Solar Technology (ETR:S92) is the leader in global PV monitoring and control software, according to a new report by GTM Research and SOLICHAMBA.
The total fleet monitored by SMA surpassed 17 GW in the first half of 2017. It is followed in the top 15 players ranking by Meteocontrol with 13 GW and Solar-Log with 12.2 GW.
GreenPowerMonitor (GPM), acquired by DNV GL in the summer of 2016, is expanding its market share and it managed to go up to fourth position in the ranking after achieving significant growth in H1 2017. GPM monitors 8.2 GW, while Inaccess/Draker, which occupies the fifth position, monitors a bit over 7 GW.
Other climbers in the report include AlsoEnergy, Power Factors, Locus Energy and SolarEdge (NASDAQ:SEDG). More details can be found at https://www.greentechmedia.com/research/report/global-pv-monitoring-2017-2022-markets-trends-and-leading-players#gs.rF2iMHw.
A separate report by Navigant Research, also released this quarter, says that SMA Solar and Solar-Log are the leading vendors of solar monitoring and home energy management systems (HEMSs) in the residential solar market.
“Without intelligent energy management, the enormous potential of photovoltaics cannot be exploited,” SMA CEO Pierre-Pascal Urbon commented. He explained that the company invested in software developments at an early stage and it now has more than a quarter of a million PV systems worldwide connected with its Sunny Portal. At the end of the year, SMA is launching ennexOS -- a new energy management platform for commercial customers, which will allow them to use onsite as much solar power as possible.
