Australian solar tracker distributor and project developer Skylab is seeking a planning permit for an up to 800-MW solar project with 250 MWh of co-located battery storage capacity in Queensland.
The company has submitted its proposal to Queensland’s Toowoomba Regional Council, official documents show.
The Punchs Creek Renewable Energy Project envisages the installation of more than 1.7 million of photovoltaic (PV) panels in Queensland’s Southern Downs region, in the heart of the South West Queensland Renewable Energy Zone. The selected site has direct access to the Powerlink Transmission Network.
The PV capacity is planned to be built in two phases of 400 MW each. Building activities in the initial phase, which will also include the construction of the battery storage system, are slated to begin in the middle of 2024 and take around 18 months. Stage 2 will add a further 400MW of solar.
Skylab is the developer behind the 94-MW Gunsynd solar project, which is due to enter construction in the second quarter of this year in South West Queensland. Its portfolio also includes the Springvale Renewable Project that will create a 400-MW solar park with 100 MWh of battery storage and green hydrogen production capacity.
