July 9 (Renewables Now) - Blue economy developer Simply Blue Energy has teamed up with wave energy converters (WECs) maker CorPower Ocean AB to work on a number of "significant" wave energy projects off the coasts of the UK and Ireland.

Simply Blue Energy has identified several areas that are suitable for the development of commercial wave energy projects. A newly-signed strategic collaboration agreement gives the company exclusive rights to use CorPower’s technology in the predetermined designated zones.

“These commercial projects line up as the next step following our ongoing product verification and certification program,” said Anders Jansson, Commercial Director, CorPower Ocean.

Simply Blue Energy plans to begin producing and exporting power as early as 2024, according to the announcement.

In an attempt to significantly reduce costs and lower energy prices, Simply Blue Energy will also look into the possibility of developing combined floating wind and wave energy farms, the statement adds.
