Silicon Valley Power to sell more green energy to Applied Materials
Dec 21, 2012 - Electric utility Silicon Valley Power (SVP) yesterday said US firm Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) would boost its purchase of renewable energy to cover all of the electricity consumption at its headquarters in Santa Clara, California.
SVP, the municipal electric utility of the City of Santa Clara, said that the photovoltaics (PV) and semiconductor manufacturing equipment provider, which started green power purchases in 2007, was currently the largest buyer under its Santa Clara Green Power programme that offers 100% wind and solar power.
Applied Materials has committed to buy 45 million kWh of renewable power per year, a five-fold increase over last year and equivalent of more than the annual output of 14 large-scale wind turbines.
Electricity under the Santa Clara Green Power programme is offered at an additional cost of USD 0.015 (EUR 0.011) per kWh.
