US power producer Silicon Ranch Corporation has contracted Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives Inc (NASDAQ:IEA) to build a 70-MW solar farm in Early County, Georgia.
The contract concerns the Cedar Springs Solar Ranch project, which is funded and will be owned and operated by Tennessee-based Silicon Ranch. Upon completion, expected by the end of the year, the solar power plant will provide electricity to Green Power EMC, the renewable energy supplier for 38 Georgia electric cooperatives.
Silicon Ranch’s fully-owned unit SR EPC has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to IEA Constructors, which is seen to start work by the end of the quarter. The job involves the installation of owner furnished modules and full balance of system EPC construction, including all civil, mechanical and electrical work.
The solar park will be built on a 1,400-acre site in rural southwest Georgia where over 215,000 First Solar Series 6 modules will be installed. Silicon Ranch intends to restore the land utilised for the project to a functioning grassland ecosystem through certain regenerative pastureland management practices.
