April 24 (Renewables Now) - The 53-MW solar park that was built by Silicon Ranch Corporation at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mid-South in Millington, Tennessee, is now operational.

Nashville-based Silicon Ranch, which operates as the US solar platform for Royal Dutch Shell Plc (AMS:RDSA), realised this project in a public-private partnership with the City of Millington, the US Navy, Memphis, Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) and Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).

The developer signed a long-term lease with the US Navy for 72 acres (29.1 ha) of base land. In addition, it bought an adjacent 348 acres from the Millington Industrial Development Board (MIDB).

The plant will supply power to the NSA Mid-South base and TVA for the next 20 years.
