Siemens wins breakthrough order for 115 MW wind turbines in Chile
May 21, 2012 - German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) said today it will deliver, install and commission 50 turbines with a total capacity of 115 MW in the El Arrayan wind farm in Chile.
No financial details were available.
The order marks the entry of Siemens wind power division in Chile and was placed by US wind and transmission company Pattern Energy Group LP and US Ashmore Energy International, and Chilean Antofagasta Minerals SA.
The contract also covers five years of service and maintenance.
Each of the turbines to be used in the wind farm, located 400 km (248.5 miles) north of Santiago de Chile, will have a capacity of 2.3 MW and a 101-meter (331.4 ft) rotor diameter.
Installation is due to start in the spring of 2013 and commissioning -- in early 2014. The wind farm will provide electricity for up to 200,000 households.
