May 17 (Renewables Now) - Wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) said today it has inaugurated a EUR-3-million (USD 3.5m) technology and manufacturing centre in Spain where it will be testing electric systems of up to 10 MW.

The new facility is located in the Madrid town of San Fernando de Henares. It is equipped with two test benches for testing and validating systems for both wind and solar photovoltaic (PV), as well as energy storage purposes. The new capacity ceiling of 10 MW is five times higher than the previous of 2 MW.

The centre also has manufacturing lines devoted to the production of power electronics for the wind power, PV and energy storage segments. Siemens Gamesa noted that this year it expects to boost production of PV inverters by 70%.

A total of 183 people are currently employed at the new facility.
