Siemens, Arctech get orders for 258-MWp solar farm in Vietnam

Several divisions of Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) will supply the electrical engineering components needed for a 258-MWp solar farm in Vietnam under a USD-17.5-million (EUR 15m) contract.

Siemens said Wednesday the contract comes from Trung Nam Group and marks its first solar project in South-East Asia. The company will deliver inverters, power- and distribution transformers, gas-insulated medium-voltage switchgear, circuit-breakers, and a monitoring and control system, for a full Electrical Balance of Plant (eBoP) solution.

Trung Nam Group, which invests in energy, infrastructure and real estate, has meanwhile awarded an order for the tracking system to China-based Arctech Solar, the latter said Tuesday. Its Skyline horizontal single-axis tracker will be used for the solar park, being built on irregular terrain in the southern province of Ninh Tuan. Completion of the solar photovoltaic (PV) project is planned for 2019, with the start of commercial operation targeted for June.

The 258-MWp solar park is to produce about 425 GWh annually, or as much power as 200,000 homes need. It is estimated to avoid 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
