Sharp Solar wraps up 5-MW PV power scheme in UK - report

Aug 10, 2012 - Sharp Solar, a unit of Japanese electronics group Sharp Corp (TYO:6753), has finished the construction of a 5-MW photovoltaic (PV) scheme in the Wrexham County Borough, North Wales, Solar Portal UK reported yesterday.

The GBP-15-million (USD 23.4m/EUR 19.1m) solar scheme includes 3,000 PV arrays spread on properties, including some 150 individual flats, in Wrexham. It is among the largest council-led solar schemes in the UK, the solar industry news website said.

The solar scheme utilises locally-produced Sharp Solar PV kits which are expected to produce enough combined power to offset the emission of 3,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

The properties fitted with solar panels could save GBP 75 to GBP 250 in electricity costs annually, according to estimates by the council.
