Sharp Corp (TYO:6753) announced on Thursday it has commenced power generation at the 40.8-MW direct current (DC) Samegawa Aosono Solar Power Plant in Fukushima prefecture, northern Japan.
The photovoltaic (PV) facility was built by Samegawa Energy LLC, a joint venture (JV) between Sharp Energy Solutions Corporation (SESJ) and Fuyo General Lease Co Ltd (TYO:8424).
Located in Samegawa village, the solar park is to generate some 44 million kWh of clean electricity per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 9,200 average local homes. Accordingly, the plant can offset the equivalent of 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in a year.
Sharp said that the park’s output is being sold under the feed-in tariff (FiT) system to Japanese utility TEPCO Energy Partner Inc, a unit of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc (TYO:9501).
