July 9 (Renewables Now) - Sharp Energy Solutions Corporation (SESJ), part of Sharp Corp (TYO:6753), announced today the completion of a 4-MW direct current (DC) rooftop solar power array in the Philippines.
The photovoltaic (PV) system was built on top of a production plant run by local tire manufacturing and sales firm Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc. It was supported by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Model Project, which provides financial supports for up to half of the initial investment costs.
Located in Pampanga Province, the solar park is expected to be generating 5,363 MWh of electricity per year, enough to offset the equivalent of 2,858 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, Sharp stated in its press release.
The solar output will be used to power the tire factory, allowing it to reduce its power purchases from the grid. The manufacturing facility is owned by Japan's Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd.
