Singapore-based utilities group Sembcorp Industries Ltd (SGX:U96) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two companies to conduct a joint feasibility study of the use of integrated energy solutions to power data centres in the Asian city-state.
Sembcorp said it has teamed up with Singapore’s grid operator SP Group and real estate company CapitaLand Limited to develop solutions which could include a combination of solar photovoltaic (PV), green hydrogen and energy storage technologies, among others.

Under the MoU, the study will first focus on powering CapitaLand’s 9 Tai Seng Drive data centre with green energy. Results from the study are planned to arrive in the second half of 2021 and could be applicable to benefit other data centres in Singapore, Sembcorp said.
The collaboration will be realised under SP’s Energy Partnership Programme, an initiative that gives corporate entities an environment to research and test their sustainable solutions before moving to real-world applications, according to the release. The joint study for CapitaLand will be conducted at SP’s concept lab.
