Solar panel maker SEG Solar has acquired a production facility in Houston, Texas that will become a base for the manufacturing of more than 2 GW of photovoltaic (PV) modules annually.
The company’s total investment in the plant includes its acquisition, the purchase of equipment and certain improvements. The total required sum for the initiative is expected to exceed USD 60 million (EUR 55.7m), SEG Solar said on Monday.
The factory has about 145,000 square feet (13,470 square metres) of manufacturing and warehouse space and 16,000 square feet of office premises. It will be equipped with three production lines that will make N-type and Topcon PV modules with 182mm or 210mm solar cells. Components and other materials required for the manufacturing process will be sourced locally.
The production site is expected to become operational in the first quarter of next year.
SEG Solar, a spin-off of Jiangsu Seraphim Solar System Ltd, said it intends to move its headquarters and administrative support functions from San Antonio to the Houston base before the end of the year.
As of September 2022, the company had supplied equipment for more than 1.2 GW of utility, commercial and residential solar projects in the US. SEG Solar's goal is to ship more than 2 GW of PV modules annually by end-2024.
