February 18 (Renewables Now) - Scatec Solar ASA (OSL:SSO) and its project partners have commissioned the 86-MW Sirius solar farm in Upington, South Africa, the Oslo-based company announced on Tuesday.

Sirius is the first of three facilities that will make up the 258-MW solar complex in Upington. The remaining two parks are due to reach commercial operation sometime in the next few months.

Scatec Solar was awarded a preferred bidder status for the Upington projects in the fourth round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPP) in April 2015.

The company holds a 42% stake in the schemes, while Norway’s Norfund and South African clean energy investor H1 Holdings own 18% and 35%, respectively. The surrounding community of Upington holds the remaining 5% of the equity.
