(SeeNews) - Jan 29, 2013 - Brazilian biofuel trader SCA Trading now expects that Brazil exports up to 2 billion litres (528.3m gallons) of ethanol to the USA versus a more optimistic previous estimate of between 2.4 billion litres and 2.5 billion litres.
According to SCA's president, Martinho Seiiti Ono, the projection revision mirrors the change of US Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS), which now allow fuel distributors to meet the mandatory advanced fuels blend with both biodiesel and ethanol. There is no more a special requirement for a certain percentage to be met especially with ethanol from sugar cane, the one produced in Brazi, he explained. Hence, Brazilian ethanol exports are seen to be negatively affected.
The mandatory advanced fuels blend in the USA this year is set at a total 1.93 million gallons. In the same time, US installed biodiesel production capacity stands a bit above 2 million gallons a year, Ono added.
