SB Energy, Mitsubishi UFJ finalise 65-MW PV plant with storage in Hokkaido

Japanese renewable energy firm SB Energy Corp said today it has started the commercial operation of a 64.6-MW solar power plant with a lithium-ion battery in Hokkaido island.
The solar plant was developed in cooperation with local company Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance Co Ltd (TYO:8593). According to the press release, the facility will be managed through a 50/50 joint venture (JV).
Located in Abira city, SoftBank Tomatoh Abira Solar Park 2 covers an area of 90 hectares (222.4 acres) and has an estimated annual output of about 71.47 million kWh, enough to supply 19,854 local households.
The lithium-ion battery system will be capable of storing around 19,000 kWh, making it one of the largest solar power plants with a storage component in the country, the clean energy arm of SoftBank Corp (TYO:9984) noted.
