India’s Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd has clinched a deal to supply power from 33 MW of renewable energy capacity to the local arm of French building materials manufacturer Compagnie de Saint-Gobain SA (EPA:SGO).
Saint-Gobain India will procure electricity under a wind-solar hybrid energy supply agreement, the companies announced on Tuesday. The 25-year deal supports Saint-Gobain’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The locally-produced green power will be used at Saint-Gobain’s manufacturing facilities in Sriperumbudur, Perundurai and Tiruvallur. Under the arrangement, the electricity will be delivered through a special purpose vehicle, in which Green Infra Wind will hold 74% and the rest will be held by Saint-Gobain India.
The building materials maker already has several solar parks generating electricity for its Indian operations. According to its estimates, it will be able to meet 44% of its power requirements in the country with renewable electricity by 2023.
Green Infra Wind is owned by renewable project developer Sembcorp Green Infra Ltd, which is part of Singapore-based utilities group Sembcorp Industries Ltd (SGX:U96). The latter has 5.7 GW of installed renewables capacity globally and is aiming to reach 10 GW by 2025.
