RWE launches production of solar generated steam at Andasol 3

Jul 19, 2011 - German utility RWE AG (ETR:RWE) announced on Monday that its solar thermal power plant Andasol 3, based in southern Spain, has successfully passed its first test phase by producing solar generated steam for the first time.

Andasol 3 is expected to go online in October 2011.

Together with the sister plants Andasol 1 and Andasol 2, which were already brought to operation, Andasol 3 should supply around half a million end consumers with clean electricity, RWE said.

More than 200,000 parabolic mirrors have been installed in Andasol 3.

The plant's investors comprise Stadtwerke Muenchen, machine builder Ferrostaal, solar energy company Solar Millennium (ETR:S2M), RWE's unit RWE Innogy as well as RheinEnergie. Spanish company Duro Felguera together with Ferrostaal, Solar Millennium and their joint subsidiary Flagsol were responsible for planning and constructing the solar power plant.
