RWE inks 25-MW solar PPA in Canada

The renewables unit of German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 25 MW of electrical output from a Canadian solar park.

The customer in this contract is Direct Energy Business, part of energy services provider Direct Energy, which in turn is owned by UK-based Centrica Plc (LON:CNA). The client has almost one million residential, business and wholesale customers in Alberta.

The PPA, effective as of this month, calls for RWE Renewables to supply up to 50,000 MWh of electricity and the associated environmental attributes to Direct Energy from its Canadian Hull solar plant in Southern Alberta's Taber county. The facility in question began commercial operation recently, RWE noted.
