German energy company RWE AG (ETR:RWE) is making progress with the realisation of its first offshore wind farm in Poland after receiving an environmental permit and picking the port of Ustka as operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the 350-MW F.E.W. Baltic II project in the Baltic Sea.
The clearance was granted to RWE's Polish subsidiary Baltic Trade & Invest Sp. z o.o by the regional Director for Environmental Protection in the city of Szczecin, northwest Poland, after an impact assessment process that took two years, RWE said on Thursday.
The wind farm will be built near the city of Ustka and the city port will serve as an O&M base for at least 25-30 years. A preliminary plot lease agreement has already been signed with the Port of Ustka Authority and the service station is expected to be completed by 2025.
Once a final investment decision is made, the construction of the park is expected to start as early as 2024. The green electricity produced by the facility will be equal to the consumption of about 350,000 Polish households.
RWE signed a grid connection agreement for the wind farm development in December 2020 and secured a contract for difference (CfD) for the project in April 2021.
